    Fingerplays

Fingerplays are fun to do while waiting in the doctor's office or a check-out line. Here are just a few.

  1. Open Shut Them

      Open, (open hands wide)
Shut them, (close hands into a fist)
      Open,
      Shut them,
      Give a little clap.

      Open,
      Shut them
      Open, Shut them
      Lay them in your lap.

  2. Fun With Hands

      Clap, clap, clap your hands,
      As slowly as can be;
      Clap, clap, clap your hands,
      Do it now with me.

      Clap, clap, clap your hands,
      As fast as can be;
      Clap, clap, clap your hands,
      Do it now with me.

      Repeat for:

    • Roll, roll, roll your hands
    • Shake, shake, shake your hands
    • Stamp, stamp, stamp your feet

  3. Counting

A little ball, (hands form a circle)
A bigger ball, (hands move apart)
A great big ball I see; (arms form a circle around head)
Now let's count the balls we've made
One, two, three. (repeat all three motions)

  4. Fee Fie Foe Fum

Fee, fie, foe, fum, (point to little finger for "fee," continue with other fingers)
See my finger, (point to index finger)
See my thumb. (point to thumb)
      Fee, fie, foe, fum,
Fingers gone, (hide fingers in hand)
So is thumb. (hide thumb in fist)

  5. Little Robin Redbreast

      Little robin redbreast
Sat upon a rail; (thumb and little finger up)
Niddle-noodle went his head, (move thumb)
And wiggle-wiggle went his tail. (move little finger)

  6. A-Walking We Will Go
(Sing to the tune of "Farmer in the Dell")

      A-walking we will go.
      A-walking we will go.
      Heigh ho the merry-o,
      A-walking we will go.

Repeat with jumping, hopping, nodding, waving, toptoeing, scooting, wiggling, etc.
